Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter is facing enormous change. In 2016, a huge swathe of land encompassing Rosemary Street, North Street, the historic Assembly Buildings, and Donegall Street, including North Street Arcade and Writers’ Square, was purchased by investment company Castlebrooke.
Despite this area’s historical importance, distinct character, and its current prominence as the beating heart of Northern Ireland’s arts and cultural scene, the proposals are for widespread demolition, replacing independent businesses and arts organisations with generic retail & offices.
We don’t want that to happen. If you don’t either, join us, on Thursday 7th June in the Black Box for our campaign fundraiser!
An impressive array of local musicians, poets and visual artists have come together, featuring music from the darkly swoonsome Ex-Isles, beautiful rhythmic melodies from Dandy’s Loft, high energy jazz and punk from The Tony Strickland Quartet and floor fillers from DJ Liam McCartan, the Save CQ Fundraiser will also include a campaign update, a performance of a new piece of writing by poet Colin Hassard, and a very special prize draw!
The Save CQ campaign team have lined up a fantastic selection of raffle prizes which have been kindly donated by local artists, businesses and event promoters:
