Petra Wolsey (née Devitt) was born in Bangor in 1975.
Raised in Holywood, County Down, the youngest of four children, Petra was educated at Strathearn School, and went on to study for a BA Honours degree in Fine and Applied Arts at The Ulster University, Belfast. As an Alumna of UUB, she has been invited back on a number of occasions as a guest lecturer in the business school.
Having achieved her degree, Petra sought a temporary position to tide her over until her artistic business aspirations were more concrete, and it was this “temporary” role that led her to the position she holds today as Marketing Director of The Beannchor Group, owners of The Merchant Hotel, Bullitt, Little Wing Pizzeria chain, The Dirty Onion, Yardbird, The National Grande Café and more besides.
Petra started work with The Beannchor Group as a waiter in Ta Tu Bar and Grill. Ta Tu was truly a flagship venue for Belfast when it first opened nearly 17 years ago (now sold).
Her role gradually evolved from operational to marketing and grew with the subsequent purchases made by the group.
Petra now manages a marketing team of 6 people and relishes the variety, creativity and of course challenge that her job brings. When asked what a typical day consists of she confirms that there is definitely no such thing as a typical day!
Petra sits on the board of Hospitality Ulster and also of Aware. She and her husband Bill have a 7-year-old daughter Caoilinn.
Petra is a passionate motorcyclist, cyclist and skier.
In 2010 Barbara Hughes and her husband took a huge leap of faith. Barbara and Stuart resigned from their jobs and remortgaged their home to follow their passion and start Hughes Craft Distillery.
With three children in tow, the intrepid pair established Northern Ireland’s first craft spirits producer in the kitchen of their Dromore home. That passion drove early success and they soon became known for their award-winning range of RubyBlue Potato Vodka and real fruit liqueurs. From the outset Barbara oversaw every step of the business from sourcing and production to selling and exporting. And from those humble beginnings, the business has expanded and far outgrown the family kitchen.
Moving in October 2017 to their new home The Still House of Moira, the gastropub with its on site distillery, and spirit school, has seen employee numbers rise from 3 to 35 – further adding to Barbara’s list of responsibilities.
With recruitment, payroll and personnel on the list, Barbara rarely has a quiet moment. But she does look forward to enjoying the fruits of her labour when the StillHouse is in full swing with tours, cocktail classes and even the chance to distill your very own creation.
