Event Details

Belfast Science Cafe is delighted to welcome you to our June cafe. Dr Kate Maguire of the of the Astrophysics Research Centre in the School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen’s University Belfast will give a talk on gravitational waves.

In her talk Dr Kate Maguire will discuss the excitement surrounding the recent detections of these elusive ripples in the fabric of spacetime that led to the award of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2017. She will also talk about how the longstanding mystery of how gold is formed may now be answered through the first detections of the smashing together of two neutron stars.

The format is as always informal; everybody is welcome to attend, but please make sure to reserve a free ticket! Doors open at 18:00 and the talk will start at 18:30. There will be a break for buying drinks after the talk and then a question and answer session, ending around eight.
